# Missed a GLP-1 dose? Here’s what the labels actually say

Based on FDA prescribing information & peer-reviewed sources · Updated 2026-07-22 · 5 min read

Quick answer

The general label rules: Ozempic — take within 5 days, otherwise skip. Wegovy — take it if your next dose is more than 48 hours away, otherwise skip. Mounjaro/Zepbound — take within 4 days (96 hours), otherwise skip. Rybelsus — skip a missed day entirely. Never take two doses to catch up, and confirm your specific case with your prescriber.

## The rules, medication by medication

Medication | If you miss a dose… | Hard rule

Ozempic (weekly) | Take it within **5 days** of the missed dose; after that, skip and resume on your usual day. | Never two doses within 48 hours of each other.

Wegovy (weekly) | If the next scheduled dose is **more than 2 days (48 h) away**, take it as soon as possible. If less — skip. | Missed 2+ consecutive doses? Call your prescriber — escalation may restart.

Mounjaro / Zepbound (weekly) | Take it within **4 days (96 h)**; after that, skip and resume. | Keep at least 3 days (72 h) between two doses.

Rybelsus (daily tablet) | **Skip** the missed day. Take your next dose the following morning, empty stomach as usual. | Never double up tablets.

Saxenda / Victoza (daily injection) | Resume with the next scheduled dose — don’t inject extra. | Missed **3+ days**? Contact your prescriber; the label suggests restarting at 0.6 mg to reduce GI symptoms.

## Why “never double up” is the one universal rule

These medications have long half-lives — a meaningful share of your last dose is still active days later. Doubling doesn’t “catch you up”; it spikes your level far above anything your body has adapted to, which is the recipe for the worst nausea of your journey (or worse). Whatever else you do: one dose at a time.

## What a missed week actually does to your level

Less than you’d fear. With a ~1-week half-life, skipping one semaglutide dose drops you to roughly half your usual trough before the next dose rebuilds it — noticeable, sometimes hunger-noisy, but recoverable within a week or two of normal dosing. You can see this play out in our [free level plotter](/tools/glp-1-plotter): model your schedule, then imagine one tooth missing from the sawtooth.

**≈ 50%** of a semaglutide dose is still in your system one week later — the reason a single missed week bends your curve rather than breaking it.

## When to call your prescriber instead of just resuming

- You’ve missed **two or more consecutive doses** (Wegovy’s label calls this out explicitly — dose escalation may need to restart).
- You’re mid-titration and unsure which step to resume at.
- You paused because of side effects — that’s a dosing conversation, not a scheduling one.
- Daily liraglutide, 3+ days missed (label recommends restarting at 0.6 mg).

## The honest fix: don’t rely on memory

Nearly every missed dose we hear about has the same cause: a busy week and no reminder tied to the actual dose window. A reminder the evening before plus dose-day morning — with the shot markable right from the notification — turns “wait, did I take it?” into a two-second answer.

**Make missed doses rare**

GLPMate reminds you before your dose window closes and shows your medication’s own missed-dose rule right in the app.
